Our Mission

To make sure puppies grow up into behaviorally healthy, happy dogs that make great lifetime companions, thereby saving millions of dogs from surrender and euthanasia.

Our Method

Raising awareness of the importance of safe, early, and effective socialization (SEES) and providing pet owners with the resources needed to make it happen.

While you can never completely eliminate health risks when socializing your puppy before he's fully vaccinated, you can significantly minimize both health and behavioral risks by following our Socialization Safety Guidelines and working closely with your veterinarian. Download the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior's Position Statement here.

Taking advantage of your puppy's early development is critical. This is when he's at his most receptive; open and pliable. Make sure he has as many positive experiences out in the world during this time so he'll grow up to be easygoing and friendly. If you wait, your puppy's "internal timer," the so-called socialization window, begins to close (around 12-16 weeks of age). After this, he's genetically programmed to become more and more distrustful of new or unpleasant experiences.

When you work with an OS Trainer, you'll learn to manage your puppy's experiences to create positive, lasting associations while avoiding common socialization pitfalls.

The process of introducing your puppy to a multitude of sights, sounds, surfaces, objects, people and other dogs in a positive, safe and responsible manner so he can grow into an adult that has the ability to adapt to new experiences.

Our Approach

A Behavioral Health "Vaccination"

We believe "vaccinating" your puppy against the most common threats to his behavioral health is just as important as vaccinating him against threats to his physical health. Committing to safe, early and effective socialization reduces the risk of your puppy developing a behavior problem as an adult and increases his chances of remaining in your home throughout his lifetime.

Smart Socialization

Our Socialization Success program goes beyond simply exposing your puppy to certain circumstances. It takes into account the quality and quantity of interactions. It's better for your puppy to have fewer, positive experiences than lots of mediocre or negative ones. We show you how to make the most of your puppy's socialization excursions, how to avoid common pitfalls, and how to evaluate your puppy's progress.

Socialization Beyond the Classroom

Enrolling your puppy in a Puppy Class is very important. But to make the most of your puppy's potential you also need to socialize him in the real world. After all, he won't live in the classroom. When you sign up with an OS Trainer you get the benefit of both worlds. A class that provides the guidance of a qualified professional and a Socialization Success program that provides access to safe, positive experiences in the outside world.

Community Networking

We believe it takes a village to raise a puppy. That's why we created the first ever network of local businesses and professional dog trainers committed to helping raise puppies.
